The trauma of no-choice: Wild food ethnobotany in Yaghnobi and Tajik villages, Varzob Valley, Tajikistan

Abstract Due to global change and the migration crisis both needing rapid attention, there has been growing debate about drivers of in diet migrants. Our study aimed evaluate consequences forced resettlement on local ecological knowledge related wild food plants among forcefully resettled Yaghnobi people Tajikistan. We conducted 49 semi-structured in-depth interviews recorded 27 taxa five unidentified folk used by Yaghnobis Tajiks villages surrounding Yaghnob Valley (including families ressetteled from Valley) central Tajikitsan. The comparision between two considered groups showed a high level Tajikisation Yaghnobis, those who live alongside as well living separately. few that still have distinct plant uses are ones which were given opportunity choose spot relocate visit regularly. On basis our study, we suggest affording choice where is better than no choice, loss motivation also affects use plants. Given pressure possible relocation many light change, focusing efforts studying similar cases order minimize damage caused relocation. trauma relocation, even just kilometers away, directly or indirectly with this security community.
